Dining Out In Pattaya and Jomtien

With such a diverse mix of nationalities both residing and visiting Pattaya it is no small claim that the city can boast to be the gateway of Asia for international cuisine catering for all pockets and tastes, be it Scandinavian, French, Italian, Mexican, German, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indian or a good old English breakfast and of course our wonderful Thai dishes.
Below we list some of our own favourite restaurants to be found in Pattaya and Jomtien, a mixture of elegant international fine dining, Thai cuisine and European family restaurants that offer good food at reasonable prices. Where possible we have included a link to the individual restaurants websites or telephone numbers where you can obtain further information or make a table reservation.

Pattaya

Mantra Restaurant and Bar - The hottest spot in town for dinner and drinks as well as a fabulous Sunday brunch. A really innovative concept in dinning, with Asian and Mediterranean cuisines. Mulligan's Irish Pub & Restaurant - Mulligan’s offers a family-friendly option with plenty of large screen TVs showing all popular major sporting events.  An open kitchen concept, which is a refreshing touch for an Irish pub, is also incorporated for the chefs to display their culinary expertise, with a comprehensive Irish menu and their specialty steaks receive rave reviews from local and expatriate customers. Cabbage & Condoms – Superb Thai and European cuisine. For a special romantic intimate dining experience this has to be one of the best in town, located directly on and above the beautiful Asia Beach with views and beautiful sun sets over Koh Larn Island.  Located at the bottom of Soi 4 Pratumnak. Sugar Hut Restaurant –  An extensive but expensive Thai  menu but well worth the price, set in the midst of large tropical gardens. Located on Thappraya Road opposite the turning to Pratumnak Road.  Tel: 038 364 186. www.sugar-hut.com

Ruen Thai - The quality of its Thai Food as well as its ambiance is unsurpassed in Pattaya and probably elsewhere. It’s not a cheap restaurant - but it is worth paying that little extra to experience what is probably the best Thai food in town. Located on 2nd Road.

Jomtien

Bruno’s  - The home of fine elegant dining. Bruno’s Restaurant has been a favourite amongst local residents and holiday-makers since 1996, offering a full international menu along with local dishes to cater for all tastes.  Located on the left on Thappraya Road as you come down the hill toward the Thepprasit – Thappraya Road junction. News Steaks & Grill - Swedish owners, a Swedish head chef with an international menu. Great Scandinavain food, plank steaks, seafood and Thai dishes with an ambiance that will rival the best restaurants in the area. Fraser's - Latest Sports Bar to open, above News Steaks & Grill, and already has firmly established itself with both expats and tourists. With ultra friendly staff, multiple big screens showing live sports from around the world, family friendly with kiddies play area. The Grill House at Rabbit Resort - The perfect place for a quiet and romantic dinner on the beach.  A lovely open air restaurant with flickering lights and palms swaying under the stars. An extensive menu of steaks and fresh seafood with superb Thai dishes. Located on Dongtan Beach, about a 10 minute stroll from the police box.  Tel: 038 251 730. www.rabbitresort.com

Simons Fish & Chips – Authentic  British fish and chips in best batter, mushy peas, pies, all at a reasonable price….just like being back in England! Located just 50m after Hannuman Statue on Thappraya Road.

Mignon - Nice small restaurant and as the name suggests specializes in great steaks. The varied menu is good and appetizing. Located on Thappraya Road on the left just before the Arch.

Shenanigans Irish Pub & Restaurant – Great Irish and Thai food, warm atmosphere, live sports, pub quiz. Located in Jomtien Complex on the right, just before the Arch, going down to Jomtien Beach. Tel: 038 303 490. www.shenanigansthailand.com

Kaffa Pub & Restaurant – A traditional Thai restaurant that serves some of the best Thai food in town. Try their steamed sea bass, it has to be the tastiest to be found anywhere. Definitely our No.1 Thai restaurant in Jomtien. Located almost on the corner of Beach Road and Thappraya Road, opposite the police station

Akvavit - Recently opened and already one of the most popular restaurants in town. The owners are the same Scandinavians who established News Steaks and Grill and now they are doing it all again with Akvavit which is ideally located right on Beach Road on the corner of Soi 3. With a stylish but modern interior including an open bar where you can drink and people watch, a two tier open air restaurant area and a non smoking air conditioned restaurant. Specializing in steaks the mainly Scandinavian menu is extensive. Highly recommended!

Simple Simons – Highly recommended English restaurant……our local! Has to have the best value English breakfast in Jomtien at 120 Bt with unlimited tea or coffee, Sunday roast dinners, great Thai food, live Premiership football, rooms for rent, also sales of bacon, sausages, pies etc. Located in Soi 5 Immigration, off Beach Road.  Tel: 089 096 2491. www.simplesimonthailand.com

Surf Kitchen – An extensive menu of Thai and European dishes at very reasonable prices. It can get very busy so be prepared to wait for your meal at times.  Located right next to 7-11 on the corner of Soi 5 and Beach Road.

Oasis – An extensive menu of Italian, European and Russian dishes at very realistic prices, can get very busy. Located on the corner of Soi 5 Immigration and Beach Road.

Jomtien Boathouse Restaurant & Grill  - Offers a panoramic view over Jomtien Beach, as well as a great range of delicious international and Thai cuisine, with steaks and seafood a specialty. Located just before Soi 8 on Beach Road. Tel: 038 756 143. www.jomtien-boathouse.com

Yorkies – English restaurant serving very tasty full English breakfasts, they also sell bacon, gammon, sausages, pies from their own labels. Located on Soi Chaiyapruk Road, 100m from Sukhumvit Road.  Tel: 038 231 918.

Tomas Wine Bar & Restaurant – Truly superb international cuisine in a superb ambiance on Jomtien Beach. Located 50m after Soi Chaiyapruk Road on Jomtien Beach Road.  Tel: 038 231 720

OK,  these are not restaurants but a few places where you can relax and wind down!

Country Road Bar – For those who like a game or two of pool this is the place, with eight pool tables, friendly no hassle staff and a DJ who plays some great music, very popular. Located on the right 50m after Shenanigans on Thapprayay Road.

Siam Cats Bar – The golfers meeting place. Friendly no hassle staff, relaxing music, live Premiership and German football, rooms for rent. Located in Soi 5 Immigration off Beach Road. Tel: 085 699 0954. www.siamcats-jomtiengolf.net

Road House - Formally 'Sallys Bar' with a new name but the same owner, same 'staff' and same ambiance, a very relaxed laid back bar, an ideal place for a quiet drink to watch the world go by. Located on Soi 5 directly opposite the Jomtien Thani Hotel.

Jomtien Night Plaza - The new and very popular night time drinking area at the top of Soi 5 on the new Jomtien 2nd Road, next to the fresh food market. Many small bars with music and pool tables (try The Star Bar for a relaxing drink, people watching and live Premiership football), Indian restaurant, lamb kebab stall with the best kebabs around, a tourist market selling Thai decor and clothes.
